Meet the Team

  • Founder | Architect | Certified Passivhaus Designer | LCA Specialist

John has a considered and sophisticated approach to design. With a keen interest in materials, craft, and function, he enjoys the finer details of a project.

As a practical perfectionist; organised, motivated, and always thinking a few steps ahead, he enjoys resolving complex problems with rational, refined, yet pragmatic solutions.

Born in Scotland, John studied architecture at the Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh University. John is a chartered Architect, registered with the ARB, and a member of both the RIBA and RIAS. He is a Certified Passivhaus Designer and LCA Specialist.

John has over 15 years of experience, working predominantly within commercial architecture, for a handful of award-winning architecture firms. He enjoyed several years working at Foster + Partners, on a range of global projects for some stellar clients, including Apple. He has spent the last decade working in central London, at Morrow + Lorraine. During this time, he has been involved in numerous retrofit projects, leading the design and wider project teams, from concept to completion, to deliver award-winning architecture for some of the country’s best client organisations.

John now wants to build upon the experience he has accrued to date. Bringing with him the same care and attention to detail, he would like to work at a smaller scale, collaborate with clients, create with craftspeople, and focus his work towards a more natural construction.

Client Testimonials

  • Erin Hughes

I had such a positive experience working with Supernatural Studio who took us through the whole of our chapel conversion project, from planning permission, build and interior design. I particularly enjoyed discussing the project with Steph and John at each phase and then seeing our discussions visually come to life with their astute attention to detail. I would highly recommend working with them for passion projects that require a professional approach with a personal touch.

  • Ivory Hackett-Evans

I really recommend Supernatural Studio. My apartment was initially constructed in 1717 and is designated as a historical monument. John and Steph from Supernatural Studio were able to guide my partner and I through the process of renovating our interior, adding modern touches while maintaining the historic charm throughout the apartment. They were incredibly professional and had expertise with working with historical properties. I would definitely work with Supernatural Studio again.

  • Chelsie Scott

Great architects! Wonderful communication throughout the whole renovation. The end result exactly what we wanted, clean design and in line with the environmental consideration we requested.

  • Jamie Bascombe

Through their guidance, we’ve gained a deeper appreciation for sustainable building methods and the impact these can have on design and the environment.

Steph and John were incredibly helpful throughout the project, always available to answer any questions and provide thoughtful solutions.

We’re excited to collaborate with them again in the future and can’t wait to see the amazing designs they’ll create next.
